We have created an impressive selection of exciting Falconry packages for you. There is something here for everyone, even the children. The Falconry Mews at Dalhousie Castle are now widely acknowledged to provide the finest falconry packages in Scotland.
The Ultimate Falconry Experience
This is the ultimate falconry package for anyone interested in birds of prey and covers a selection of species.
Enjoy one of our gentle owls gliding into your gloved hand before delicately alighting. Although the owls are amongst our most friendly and tactile birds, they are incredible hunters and will amaze you with their senses and silent flight,
A walk around the grounds with one of our Harris’ Hawks will allow it to demonstrate its speed, agility and intelligence, as well as a very personable, mischievous streak!
Observe the confidence and skill of one of our Buzzards as they use their broad wings to glide effortlessly to your glove.
You will also have the opportunity to meet and handle one of our eagles in an encounter that’s sure to be memorable.

The Owl Encounter
Ideal for anyone who loves these unique and mysterious birds of prey, the Owl Encounter allows you to handle and fly 3 of our beautiful owls to your gloved hand. As they glide silently to your gauntlet, learn about the biology, habitats and quarry of some of the most highly specialized birds of prey in the world.
The unusual appearance and characteristics of the owl have led to it being heavily featured in mythology and legend from all around the world, from being a sacred bird revered by the Incas for its beautiful head, to being the familiar of witches and in possession of magical powers in medieval Britain. This mythology has more recently been exploited by J K Rowling’s Harry Potter novels.
The Dalhousie Castle Falconry Mews are home to a variety of owls who are amongst the biggest personalities here! If there is a particular owl you would like to meet, we can have a chat to one of our friendly falconers when you book.

Children’s Activities
The Children’s Activities are designed for children up to the age of 12 years old. The experience is spent flying two of our owls, who have extremely gentle, playful and tactile personalities. The Mews house a variety of species of varying sizes to cater for any age, from our small and very cheeky Mexican Striped Owl ‘Nimue’ to our large and irresistibly soft Great Grey Owl ‘Navajo’.
Guaranteed to thrill any child, they will put on the falconer’s glove and fly the owls for the duration of the activity. As the owl swoops to their glove, they will also learn more about these magical creatures.
The Children’s Activities can also be incorporated into a larger bespoke package for the whole family to take part in. Please enquire to one of our falconers to discuss your needs.

The Hawk Walk
Enjoy an invigorating walk around the grounds accompanied by one of our energetic and exciting Harris Hawks. As you take in the stunning natural scenery of the Dalhousie Castle grounds, our hawk will fly alongside through the trees until you call him in to the glove.
These birds can amaze with their speed and agility as well as their versatility. On the hawk walk, our hawk must weave with great agility through the trees, glide with precision over the open field and swoop down from on high to the glove.
As well as its aerial prowess, the Harris Hawk is an extraordinarily intelligent and cooperative creature. On your walk, you will learn about the unique pack-hunting style and biology of these fascinating raptors.
